Traffic Advisory March 2, 2014
Road Conditions Update 3-2-14 10:30 a.m.
Road conditions throughout most of Oklahoma continue to be slick and hazardous and travel is strongly discouraged. Crews in eastern, northeastern, and central Oklahoma, including the Tulsa and Oklahoma City Metro areas continue to apply sand and salt to roadways and bridges and are reporting slick and hazardous conditions. Wrecks throughout the Oklahoma City metro area have caused several short term lane closures this morning, but all highways and interstates remain open at this time.
Conditions in southern Oklahoma are also slick and hazardous as sleet and winter precipitation continues in the area. Conditions have improved in far northern Oklahoma, but slick spots remain and are being treated with additional sand/salt.
Drivers across the state are encouraged to use caution this morning and throughout the day and be aware of black ice.
During snow and/or ice conditions, motorists are asked to:
· Check road conditions before getting out on the roads.
· Stay at least 200 feet behind road-clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.· Allow extra space between vehicles, so there is adequate distance for braking in wet and icy conditions.
· Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway, but is actually a thin layer of ice.
· Please be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time to reach destinations.
