According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, two people were killed in a single-car accident early Sunday morning July 17.
The accident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on the Creek Turnpike west of Harvard Avenue. According to state troopers, two people were traveling west on the turnpike in a Dodge Challenger when the vehicle veered off the road at a high rate of speed and struck a concrete barrier.
Both men were ejected from the vehicle upon impact and were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Troopers are investigating to determine the cause of the collision and which person was driving.
The Importance of Wearing a Seatbelt
Last week’s tragic accident is yet another example of the serious risks associated with not wearing a seatbelt.
Seatbelt usage alone has saved almost 300,000 lives in the United States since 1975. Wearing a seatbelt continues to be the most important safety measure you can take to protect yourself in the event of an accident.
They can help keep you securely inside your vehicle and will help prevent you from hitting the windshield or being thrown out of the vehicle in an accident. Being thrown from a vehicle significantly decreases your chances of surviving an accident.
Seatbelts are the best line of defense against aggressive, distracted and impaired drivers as well as road hazards. Furthermore, air bags are more effective when motorists are properly buckled up.
