While officers were responding to an accident on Highway 169 early Sunday morning, an SUV slammed into the back of a police cruiser parked at the scene of the accident with its emergency lights flashing.
Shortly before 2 a.m., officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of the highway. According to reports, a driver in a white Charger crashed into multiple vehicles and then struck a wall.
First responders were tending to the scene and trying to get the injured driver to the hospital when they heard another crash. They turned around to see that an SUV had crashed into one of the police cruisers.
The cruiser was parked in the left lanes up the road from the scene of the accident with its lights on to help block the accident scene and slow down traffic approaching the area.
Fortunately, no one was hurt in the second accident: no officers were in the police cruiser at the time and the driver of the SUV was not injured. The driver involved in the first accident was injured though is expected to survive.
Officers have not released any information about the driver of the SUV that crashed into police cruiser. It remains unclear why the driver did not stop or move into another lane.
